Hundreds of New Online Journals

We've removed the paywall; now the complete Journal of Zoology is accessible online.  This includes Proceedings of the Zoological Society of London and Transactions of the Zoological Society of London.

And here's more great news - we've added over 600 online journals and 5,000 books from Springer.

You can access all of these through your favorite search services - Search Everything, PubMed, GoogleScholar - or directly at Springer Link.

Access to these resources is limited to staff and volunteers working on-site.  Staff may also access through VPN.

Clean, Simple, Easy ... A Website Designed for You!

Try out the new Search Everything! box on our redesigned SDZG Library homepage. It's an easy way to find, download, or request books and articles. Keeping informed will help you unite, fight, and ignite to lead the fight against extinction!

The new page also offers basic library information and key links. One change: the "Journal List" button now takes you to a new, user-friendly Publications search interface.

Has a favorite link disappeared? No worries! The top drop down menu offers the same options as before.

Coming attraction ...

The Library's animal fact sheets, research guides, and newsletters already offer "responsive design" for easy viewing on mobile devices. In 2017, we plan to convert the rest of the Library's webpages, making them compatible with all your devices!

Ice Bear : The Cultural History of an Arctic Icon

By Michael Engelhard (2017)

Prime Arctic predator and nomad of the sea ice and tundra, the polar bear endures as a source of wonder, terror, and fascination. Humans have seen it as spirit guide and fanged enemy, as trade good and moral metaphor, as food source and symbol of ecological crisis. ... From Inuit shamans to Jean Harlow lounging on a bearskin rug, from the cubs trained to pull sleds toward the North Pole to cuddly superstar Knut, it all comes to life in these pages. With meticulous research and more than 160 illustrations, the author brings into focus this powerful and elusive animal. —Publisher
