MTE Applauds the U.S. Government for its Continued Stance on China's Non-Market Economy Status
On December 12th, the Manufacturers for Trade Enforcement (MTE) Coalition, which AISI co-chairs, released a statement commending the U.S. government for its strong position on China’s non-market economy (NME) status. China has claimed that it should automatically receive market economy status following the 15th anniversary of its accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO) on December 11, 2016. However, U.S. law requires that the Department of Commerce (DOC) make a market economy status (MES) determination based on a six factor statutory test. On December 12th China also launched a challenge to the U.S. and EU laws on NME treatment at the WTO. To read the full MTE Coalition statement, go here.

Fire Testing Results in Improvements to UL Design No. D982
Recent fire tests conducted by Underwriters Laboratories (UL) for AISI and the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) resulted in revisions to UL Design No. D982 in the organization’s Fire Resistance Directory. The revisions allow fire protection costs to be cut in half compared with old unrestrained applications. They also make it easier for designers to determine the amount of fire protection needed for a steel floor assembly.
