This month, a team of CGR researchers and students traveled to the Atacama Desert Altiplano to collect samples for genome and transcriptome analysis. The team of investigators is working on the plant and microorganismal species inhabiting a transect located between 2,000 and 4,000 meters above sea level.

New CGR Postdoctoral fellow:

Dr. Beatriz Fernández
Beatriz Fernández is a PhD in Marine Microbiology, Marine Science Institute (ICM-CSIC), Barcelona, Spain, under the supervision of Dr. Carles Pedrós-Alió. The title of her thesis was: “Ecology of Marine Bacteroidetes: A Genomics Approach”. She later came to Chile and carried out a postdoc at the Department of Molecular Genetics and Microbiology, P. Universidad Católica de Chile. She has joined the CGR (beginning May 2016) to participate in the analysis of microbial metagenomics of desert soils under the direction of Drs. González and Maass.
