Marquette County Road Commission engineer-manager elected president of statewide local road association

LANSING, MI – Marquette County Road Commission (MCRC) engineer-manager, James M. Iwanicki, PE, was elected president of the County Road Association (CRA) of Michigan at its 2016 Highway Conference.

“I’m honored to have Jim serve as president of the board. He’s been on the board for years, including serving as vice chair last year. Jim is well-known for his enthusiasm, solid road knowledge and innovative thinking,” said Denise Donohue, CRA’s executive director.

Iwanicki has worked at MCRC for 17 years and earned his degree in civil engineering from Michigan Technological University. Last year, Iwanicki was recognized as the 2014 CRA Rural Engineer of the Year.

In the past, Iwanicki has been successful in securing federal, state and private funding to be used towards road and bridge improvement in Marquette County. He was also involved in the largest road project ever completed in the Upper Peninsula.

In addition to Iwanicki, Steven A. Warren of the Kent County Road Commission was elected vice president of the board, while Dorothy G. Pohl, CPA, of the Ionia County Road Commission was re-elected secretary-treasurer.

The 83 members of the County Road Association represent the unified, credible and effective voice for a safe and efficient local road system in Michigan, collectively managing more than 73 percent of all roads in the state– more than 90,000 miles and 5,700 bridges— the fourth-largest county road system in the nation.
