Join us for RECLAIM! spring 2016 edition!
April 16 & 17, 11am-6pm
We're hosting this design sample collection and redistribution event again in our warehouse space the weekend of April 15th -- 17th! On Friday the 15th, staff and volunteers will be spending the day taking in donations of tile, wood, glass, laminate, fabric, and all kinds of other samples from interior designers and architects. Then, on Saturday and Sunday, you'll be able to get your hands on as much of the materials as you'd like. This is the perfect opportunity to stock up for your mosaic project, funky bathroom remodel, classroom needs, or to let yourself be inspired by these beautiful sample-sized pieces! We are aiming to double the amount of materials that we had last October. Don't forget to bring your tote bags!

If you are interested in sponsoring or donating materials to RECLAIM, please contact our materials coordinator, Barbara, at

march program recap
Here’s what the Creative Education team accomplished in March:
  • We had a blast at SciTech days at the Carnegie Science Center! We made wearables out of tech parts with science-interested teens. Check out the results in our Facebook album.
  • We helped University of Thriftsburgh celebrate its first birthday! We brought wallpaper, wires, and pom-poms for making Crazy Paper Hats. See the results here!
  • We had such a good time at the 2016 HeroFest, hosted by the Heart Prints Center for Early Childhood. Check out the young superheroes we helped equip here!
  • This month, we visited the Carnegie Library of Homestead and taught kids how to sew bags, pockets, and patches. See the beautiful (and useful!) things they made here!
  • The very first Creative Conundrum Lab happened in our shop last month! We turned our workshop area into a laboratory for creating with CD jewel cases. See some impressive projects in this album, including a greenhouse and chandelier!

volunteer spotlight! meet althea

We love our volunteers and interns! Meet April's volunteer in the spotlight, Althea!

Althea started volunteering in our shop this past December and has since begun helping our Creative Education Team too! She is pictured here with some sweet technology-based wearable art at the Carnegie Science Center's March SciTech Days.

Why did you start volunteering with Pittsburgh Center for Creative Reuse?

"I wanted to fill my free time volunteering doing something I enjoyed, and I knew Creative Reuse to be a quirky, thrift store sort of place where I fit right in."

What is your favorite thing about volunteering with us?

"The people! Everyone I've met at Creative Reuse has been so lovely. I love talking to everyone. It makes me feel like I am helping real people and not just a faceless organization. Everyone there makes volunteering something I look forward to every week."

What would you say to someone who is interested in getting involved with Creative Reuse?

"Do it! I have come to realize that one of the best ways to find out if you like doing something is by volunteering. I had no idea I liked organizing as much as I did before starting at Creative Reuse, and I might have never known had I not decided to volunteer. Take this opportunity to become involved in an awesome organization with a great aim and wonderful people. It will be worth it!"

Thanks, Althea! We love being a place people look forward to visiting, and we appreciate all your help and enthusiasm.

If you feel inspired to volunteer with Creative Reuse, check out the available opportunities on
our website or email our volunteer coordinator at We hope we see you soon!

We're still seeking students and non-students alike for some super creative opportunities this summer (or spring!). We're offering 11 internships, and start dates and schedules are flexible. Check out our website for full descriptions and instructions on how to apply.
