The Beauty I Found in the Congo

While I have traveled and even lived overseas before, the thought of a trip to the Democratic Republic of the Congo was both thrilling and somewhat terrifying. Congo would be a far cry from anything I had experienced before.

What I expected when I arrived was to be overwhelmed by the need. But I was more overwhelmed by the beauty I found there—in the land, the people, and the long-standing and ongoing work of God.

CKC Moms Feed Their Community

This grandmother is learning to garden and feed her orphaned children.

The Covenant Kids Congo team visited the group of women’s gardening associations that are working to combat malnutrition and poverty. They call themselves MAEPASA or les Mamas des Enfants Parraine dans le Security Alimentaire (the mothers of sponsored children working for food security). Over 60 women were there to welcome us and tell their story.

Our Hope for Covenant Kids Congo in 2016

Over the past three years, thousands of you have decided to sponsor a child through Covenant Kids Congo, and with your help, the Gemena community in northwest Congo is on its way to a more hopeful future.

Clean water springs from new wells, as families fill buckets with water that won’t make their children sick. Children go to one of the three new schools in the area, where they study and pursue their dreams. Parents have learned to make the most nutritious food to help their children grow healthy and strong, and they’ve found new economic opportunities, selling handmade goods in the market and saving funds for the future.
