Outstanding Achievements
The Brimfield Historical Society has recently been recognized by organizations in Portage County for hosting Ohio Chautauqua in June.
 
The Portage County Historical Society presented the Brimfield Historical Society with the Distinguished Service Award on June 18 "in honor of their contributions to a better understanding and appreciation of the history in Portage County."
 
On September 8, the Brimfield Historical Society was honored to accept the Portage County Cultural Arts Initiative Award from Celebrate Portage!

"The Cultural Arts Initiative Award recognizes a program or initiatives of arts and cultural awareness that helps to reveal and enhance the underlying identity- the unique meaning, value and character of a community in Portage County."

Membership

September is here, so it is time to renew your membership or join for the Brimfield Historical Society for the first time. Memberships are good from September 1-August 31. They are tax deductible and are important sources for obtaining operating funds for the Historical Society and the Museum.

Benefits of membership include subscription for the monthly newsletter, Kelso Post, priority attendance at museum sponsored events, discounts for events (if fee is required), discounts at the Museum Gift Shop and discounts on rental fees for the McCormick Heritage Room. 

Annual Membership Fees are
  • Student Membership- $10
  • Individual Membership- $15
  • Family Membership- $25
  • Sponsoring Membership- $50
  • Lifetime Membership- $250*
*Lifetime Membership is limited to one individual

White Glove Wednesdays are "hands-on" opportunities to examine the collection at the museum. Participants will wear white gloves and handle some of the historic items in the museum.

This first FREE event will examine Yearbooks and School Memorabilia. Come and see some of the hidden treasures at the Kelso House Museum. 
"That" Belongs in a Museum!

Heritage Meeting Room
6:30 pm to 8:00 pm
"That" Belongs in a Museum! is a show and tell event for adults. Participants are invited to bring in an interesting or historic personal item and explain to the group why it should be in a museum. This is a great opportunity to see unique and interesting items from around the community. 

Dig out your hidden treasures and share your item of personal history at this FREE event. 
A Victorian All Hallow's Eve
Saturday, October 22, 2016
Kelso House Museum and Grounds
4:00 pm to 7:00 pm
Children: $5.00/ Adults: Free
A family event that allows children of all ages to learn and experience some of the traditions of All Hallow's Eve. 

Activities include:
  • Fortune telling
  • Storytelling
  • Bonfire
  • Roasting Marshmallows
  • Decorate a Mask
  • 50/50 Raffle
  • And More!!
Costumes are allowed, but not mandatory.

Enjoy a Victorian Halloween at the museum!


 
White Glove Wednesday: Antique Clothing
