The RCYC Cable - Vitor Medina & Luke Scott

There was a great turnout for the fun Flag Officers Team Twilight Race last Wednesday. What a pity that we couldn't get a race in...but that 1km tall vertical slab of rock, the source of sweet water, is quite an effective wind block. The 50 yachts out on the water reveled nonetheless with braais, music and sundowners.

The prize giving for the Lufthansa Twilight Series was a feel-good and efficiently run affair, with the clubhouse packed to the gunnels. It is really encouraging to see so many young sailors and so many women enjoying the sport of sailing at our club. As members, we all should consider introducing new members to the club.

The entry fees from the 69 yachts in this Lufthansa Twilight Series contributed towards a healthy R18,000 donation to the NSRI.

A big thank you to Lufthansa for your strong and continued support of Twilight sailing at our club. It is great news that this now longstanding partnership is confirmed for next season. To the winner of a pair of return business class tickets to Europe aboard Lufthansa, André Swarts, congratulations and have a great trip. Let us know all about it when you get back!

We look forward to the Fin de la Saison Regatta this weekend, incorporating race date 2 of the Krone Club Summer Series. This new regatta on our calendar is all about fun, and a last dance in the wind and waves in this incredible bay, as our summer comes to an end.

Next Wednesday evening, please join us at the club for an interactive evening with the SV Delos crew, who have a very cool series of well over 100 YouTube videos documenting there adventurous voyage around the globe over the last few years. It should be really good; they are great storytellers.

Our friends from Hout Bay Yacht Club warmly invite sailors to enter and compete in their Admirals Regatta next weekend. It's a great away weekend, and we hope to see you there.

Sail for fun

The Fin de la Saison Regatta is Royal Cape's ultimate summer season ender, featuring Fun Sailing! Taking place 18-19 March, and incorporating race date 2 of the Club Summer Series, racing will be based on fresh formats and offer an alternative to conventional windward leeward short course racing. Some ideas for races include, but are not restricted to:
The Sprint
In the Spirit of the Club Summer Series, this is a short dash to warm up. The Start and handling are key.

The Lighthouse Family
A Bay Race visiting some or all of the lighthouses in Table Bay (Mouille Point; Robben Island; Milnerton)

The Dassen Duster
A 70 mile race to Dassen and back, with the option to shorten course and finish at Dassen and return under non racing conditions.

The Bokpunt Blaster
A 44 mile race to Bokpunt and back, with the option to shorten course and finish at Bokpunt and return under non racing conditions.

The Vulcan Rocker
A 26 mile race to Vulcan Rock and back in a westerly or southwesterly breeze.

The Floater
Rather than stay ashore and wait, this is a no wind scenario raft up at Granger Bay or Clifton with on water entertainment. Anyone of the other races could follow on if weather permits.

The Navigator
A mystery bay race to stated waypoints to test the navigators

In all cases, suitably shorter courses may be set for smaller and slower (or all) yachts, with the emphasis on fun sailing.
There will be a cocktail party for all on Saturday night.

RCYC Sailing Academy - Lindani Mchunu

Land Ahoy!!

Where are we going? What do we need to prepare? How far is our journey? Do we have all the necessary equipment? Is our Boat in shape for the intended voyage? Is it the right boat?

Albert Einstein said “the question is more important than the answer”. I strongly believe that this universal principle applies to our academy as well. I believe just as we take so much care in asking the right questions to prepare for the sea, we must ask the same questions here. Transformation has become a buzz word, others cringe, some roll their eyes and some are downright indifferent. Continue reading...

The winner of last Friday night's Lucky Draw was Gary Green who was unfortunately not present to collect his prize.

The draw takes place around 19H45 every Friday evening in the club bar. You have to be a fully paid up RCYC member and present at the time to qualify for the win.

Dear Members
The time has come for review of our current Royal Cape Yacht Club Wine List. Our Wine Committee is looking forward to this project and the prospect of introducing some exciting new varieties.

One of our goals is to introduce our very own Royal Cape Yacht Club labelled wine, a Red, White and a Rose wine of good quality, no particular cultivars targeted and at a reasonable price for members. As we are aware that many of our members have interests in various wine farms, and within the wine industry as a whole, we invite those members within the wine industry to assist us in making this a reality.

Interested members who are able to provide us with delicious RCYC labelled wine are welcome to contact Wesley for further details,

Yours Sincerely
The Wine Committee
