AAUW’s Start Smart Salary Negotiations Workshop at
California State University at Chico

AAUW offers workshops on negotiating fair salaries as part of our overall work to  “Close the Pay Gap.” On March 30th, our member Sara Lautenbach facilitated a workshop at Chico State with a room of more 40 students.

72% believe the workshop will have a ‘high’ impact on their ability to negotiate a fair salary for themselves and 38% indicated it will have ‘some’ impact
Note: The other options were ‘a little’ or ‘no’ impact

80% indicate they are ‘extremely’ likely to implement the ideas/concepts from the workshop and 20% indicate they are ‘somewhat’ likely.
Note: the other options are ‘not very’ or ‘not at all’ likely to implement

Pre and post workshop surveys indicate a lot was learned. Special appreciation was expressed around the learning about:

o   The timing for salary negotiations – ideally deflect the discussion to after an offer
o   How to research and prepare for the negotiation – market info is available on the web and colleagues and friends can help you understand your unique value
o   Specific language for use in negotiating.

For more information about the Start Smart (for students) and Work Smart (for women) Salary Negotiation Workshops, see http://www.aauw.org/what-we-do/salary-negotiation-workshops/ .
